Getting Around

By Foot

Walk into better health, a sound mind and a cleaner environment.

If your destination is close at hand, don a pair of comfortable shoes and take the first step towards a healthier body and soul.

The act of walking offers a wealth of benefits for not only your body but also your mind. In fact, the labyrinth, a place of complex and interconnected paths, has long been used to stimulate the mind, promoting relaxation and reducing stress while placing the pedestrian in a state of meditation. Physically, walking is a great, heart-healthy, cardiovascular workout that is a useful tool in the maintenance of a healthy weight and for strengthening bones and joints and for toning muscle.

Bicycle

With similar health and environmental benefits to walking, biking is also an excellent choice of transportation for door to door distances less than 4 kilometres.

Bus

For longer distances and when the weather is poor, the bus is a convenient and environmentally friendly option.

Now that you know how to get here, you need to know where to park. If you plan on visiting just for a day or evening, there are a number of options available.

Parking

Visitors can park…

  • On-campus — There are parking kiosks at all of the major campus entrances through which you may purchase a daily parking permit. The price of this permit is dependant on the area in which you are parking and time of day, but ranges from Free (after 7:30pm) - $15.00 (all day).
  • Underground at the McMaster University Medical Centre — Entrance to the underground parking is available off of Main St. W. If the McMaster Campus is your destination, park in the purple section as it leads to the Health Science Centre. Parking here can cost $12.00 max a day.
  • On a side street — Parking here is not highly recommended for a long period of time as ticketing is highly enforced!

If you are just dropping someone off, you will be pleased to know that the first fifteen minutes that you are on campus are FREE! There are a number of drop-off points across campus, simply choose the one that is most convenient for you!

If you are a student commuting regularly, annual parking permits are available through Parking and Transit Services. Undergraduate students may only purchase permit for zones 6 and 7.

What are zones?

Zones are different parking lots that are on campus. These are best described visually by this campus map

To obtain a parking permit, you must apply. For more information about the application process, applicable deadlines and rates please visit the Parking and Transit Services website.
