What is LearnLink?
Learnlink was developed here at Mac to enhance the learning experience. It is a simple, user-friendly computer program that takes some of the interaction from the classroom and places it on your desk. Learnlink allows students and faculty to have chats, conferences, send e-mail and messages to individuals or large groups, submit postings of updated information on current courses, as well as, keep track of events and tasks on the built-in calendar.
One of the favourite features of Learnlink is the ability for the user to retrieve that e-mail they accidentally sent just before they realized what they had typed was not very nice. That is some innovation! Accessing Learnlink is simple. Just download the software from the Internet then set up your user name and password. Once complete, you will be a part of what has been nicknamed "The Little Red School House."
Downloading and using Learnlink is a requirement for the Health Sciences Inquiry Course. You can download the program here: http://www.learnlink.mcmaster.ca
What is the educational value of LearnLink?
Open communication and quick feedback among students and instructors are at the heart of learning and teaching. Learnlink is a tool that provides students with a continuous flow of education by facilitating communication. It is used all the way from sharing files and documents among students and instructors to facilitating debate and discussions about both important and not-so-important ideas. It can also act as a glue to keep a learning community together, as well as provide a forum for informal social relationships inside and outside the classroom.
