Evaluation

Student Evaluation

At the completion of each course, the instructor will evaluate the student’s performance. A copy of this evaluation is kept in the student’s file; the original will be distributed to the student.

Entry into the next level of each Studies Area is contingent upon satisfactory completion of the preceding level.

  • "Satisfactory" — the student has satisfactorily met the objectives of the course. A satisfactory Evaluation represents that a minimum of 70% has been achieved in the course.
  • "Unsatisfactory" — the student has not met the objectives of the course.
  • "Incomplete" — the student has not met the objectives of the course, but has been given the opportunity of doing so by the instructor within six weeks. An "incomplete" automatically becomes an "unsatisfactory" unless a "satisfactory" notification has been received within the six-week period.

If the student fails to meet the objectives of a course, repeating the course may be recommended. A second failure in this course or a failure in another course requires review by appropriate members of the Steering Committee and for students in the Staff "A" category, by the Staff Education Coordinator. A third failure will result in termination from the Program.

Appeals

A student wishing to appeal an evaluation should first contact the course instructor. If agreement cannot be reached at this level, the student should contact the appropriate Studies Area Coordinator. Names of the Studies Area Coordinators can be obtained from the CBS Office. Any further appeal should be directed in writing to the Chair, CBS Steering Committee, c/o the CBS Office.

Tutor and Course Evaluation

The learning contract established between the student and the Program emphasizes reciprocal evaluation. It is required that students evaluate all faculty and courses in order to contribute to faculty development, monitor the quality of the Program, and ensure that student needs are being met. Tutor and Course
Evaluation forms are distributed to students at the end of each course. It is essential that these forms be completed and returned to the CBS Program Office.
