Academic Interests

Dr. Melissa Brouwers is an Associate Professor and Head, Health Services Research in the Department of Oncology, McMaster University; Deputy Director of the Escarpment Cancer Research Institute; and the Provincial Director of the Program in Evidence-based Care, Cancer Care Ontario. She holds a B.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Toronto and an MA and PhD in Psychology from the Western University (formally, the University of Western Ontario).

Dr. Brouwers has been a world leader in advancing the gold standard of guideline development, reporting and appraisal as the Principal Investigator of the CIHR-supported international research team the AGREE Next Steps Consortium and the AGREE A3. The AGREE research teams have released the AGREE II, the RCT-tested AGREE training modules, and on-line guidelines resources My-AGREE and My-AGREE-PLUS (see http://www.agreetrust.org/). 

Melissa's primary research interests include the development, dissemination, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based decisions products such as clinical practice guidelines, standards, and quality indicators, models of decision-making, and knowledge translation and/or brokering. Her teaching interests include research methods, behaviour sciences and social sciences.
