Academic Pathways
We have scheduled various offerings to meet the needs of most Faculty educators, however, if there is something you feel we have missed, please let us know.
Many of you have already attended some of our PFD events, however, for some, this may be your first acquaintance with our Program.
As Faculty of Health Sciences educators, you may be asked to tutor a small group problem based tutorial, or perhaps, you may be recruited to be a clinical preceptor/ supervisor.
Our Pathways provide the necessary tools to assist you in being effective educators. For new faculty members, there is an expectation that you attend the yearly Orientation Session for Health Sciences Faculty. This session is offered twice-yearly and new faculty have the option of attending either in the Fall or Spring.
The PFD Pathways are counted as educational contributions for your Education
Dossier — all the more reason to see what we have
to offer that may be helpful to you in your future
educational endeavours.
2011-2012 Interim Listing of PFD Offerings
Our Pathways include inter-professional workshops/sessions varying from the very basic concepts
(Exposure) to more advanced level training (Immersion and Mastery). They are primarily designed
for educators wanting to gain or improve their teaching/precepting skills, and who are committed to
continued reflection, evaluation, and consequent improvement of their own practice.
Individuals may
select to only attend a few workshops/sessions, work towards one of the Teaching & Learning
Certificates, or choose to apply for the University Teaching Program (UTP).
Each of these Pathways leads to a Certificate of Completion. Individuals completing a certification level will be celebrated at our Annual DAY in FACULTY DEVELOPMENT, held each year (usually last Wednesday in April).
Unless otherwise noted, registration is required. For most faculty/residents/staff, there will not be individual registration fees due to a prior arrangement between the Departments/Programs/Schools and the PFD. If you are unsure as to whether you are covered, please contact our office: dicroce@mcmaster.ca.
Our offerings are suitable for non-McMaster educators as well, especially individuals interested in Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Tutor Training.
PFD Academic Pathways Tracking Form
please use this form to indicate and submit your completed certificate levels to the PFD Office. Each year, individuals completing certificate levels will be celebrated at the beginning of the WONG Forum in Medicine.
For 2012, this will be held on: Wed. April 25, 2012 @ 4:00 p.m. (approx.)
