Advocacy for Identifying Violence Against Women Championed at Toronto Surgical Resident's Boot Camp

Led by Emil Schemitsch, Mohit Bhandari and Sheila MacDonald all incoming PGY1s surgical residents attended an interactive workshop on identifying abuse in the surgical setting. This discussion, originally, focusing on orthopaedic residents, was expanded this year to include all surgical trainees.

Sheila Macdonald is the provincial coordinator of the Ontario Network of Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Care and Treatment Centres (SATC), which links Ontario's 33 hospital-based sexual assault care and treatment centres. She is an associate member, School of Graduate Studies, at the University of Toronto's faculty of nursing. In 2006, she received the International Association of Forensic Nurses' Achievement award.
