Dr. Colby Oitment completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto graduating from his honours bachelor of science with high distinction. He completed medical school at the University of Queensland, with electives in arthroplasty, trauma as well as hand and upper limb surgery. His primary clinical interests include trauma and spine surgery but he is an enthusiastic member of the MacOrtho team, academically interested in all areas of orthopaedics and is honoured to train alongside the innovative surgeons and scientists at McMaster.
Dr. Oitment has published several scientific papers and presented his research at conferences in Canada, the United States and Australia, and he is continuing his research activity at McMaster. He is currently working with Dr. Al-Shakman to discover the protective role of interleukin-6 in the development of osteoarthritis using mouse models as a framework. He is also planning and designing multiple research projects to be completed during his specialist training.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Oitment loves music, travelling and languages. He plays piano and studies the works of Rachmaninoff and Chopin among other composers. He has travelled North America, Europe, Africa and Austral-Asia and eagerly awaits his next excursion to Central and South America.
