It is with great sadness that we announce that Dr. Sackett has passed away.
Dr. David Sackett, who is considered the father of evidence-based medicne, had a profound and lasting effect on the way medicine is practiced today. He founded the first department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics in 1967. He also founded the Center for Evidence-Based Medicine in the UK in 1994. He had published 12 books, contributed to numerous book chapters, and published over 300 papers in scientific and medical journals.
“The practice of evidence-based medicine is a process of life-long, self-directed learning in which caring for our own patients creates the need for clinically important information about diagnosis, prognosis therapy, and other clinical and health care issues…” – Dr. David Sackett
