FAITH-2 Enrolls its 1st Patient

Published: February 26, 2015

Within just a few weeks of initializing patient recruitment, MacOrtho is pleased to announce FAITH-2 has enrolled its first patient! This marks the first step in initiating FAITH-2 pilot study that will enroll 50 patients across Canada and United States to determine the feasibility of a larger definitive trial.

FAITH-2 is a randomized controlled trial that will examine young adults with femoral neck fractures to assess the impact of surgical implant (sliding hip screw versus cancellous screws) and nutritional supplement (4,000 IU of vitamin D versus placebo) on patient important outcomes ( i.e. re-operation, femoral head osteonecrosis, severe femoral neck mal-union, and non-union). The secondary objectives are to assess the impact of surgical implant and nutritional supplementation on health-related quality of life and functional outcomes, fracture healing complications, and radiographic fracture healing. Led by Drs. Gerard Slobogean and Mohit Bhandari, this trial will have global impact on the management of these complex injuries and potentially lead to exploring the use of nutritional supplementation in femoral neck fracture treatment for younger patients.

Help us recruit the first Canadian patient for FAITH-2 trial! If you are at Hamilton Health Sciences - Hamilton General Site and have a young adult (ages 18 to 60) with femoral neck fracture, please contact Nicole Simunovic.
