The Lancet Commission on Global Surgery launch was held on April 27, 2015, at the Royal College of Medicine in London, England.
INORMUS’s data was presented at the conference, which centered open fracture care as one of three global priorities for the Lancet’s Global Surgery Commission. Open fracture care, access to emergency laparotomy, and C-section have been coined the ‘Bellwether procedures’. Five billion people currently do not have access to these treatments with consequent annual economic losses in the trillions, millions of deaths, and even more left permanently disabled.
“I’m very grateful to Drs. Petrisor and Bhandari for having the opportunity to partake in this conference. Some of the commissioners have dedicated considerable parts of their career in low-income countries improving health through tireless global surgery efforts. Commissioners such as Drs. Atul Gawande and Chris Levy are an inspiration to myself and many young surgeons.” -CJ Foote, MacOrtho Resident
