Resident Spotlight: Marcel Abouassaly

Published: September 16, 2013
Dr. Marcel Abouassaly

Marcel Abouassaly is currently a fifth year resident at McMaster through the Northern Stream program, dividing his time between Hamilton and Thunder Bay. He attended medical school at the University of Calgary and then followed in the footsteps of some exceptional residents, entering the McMaster Northern Stream program.

During his residency, he has been fortunate enough to have spent time at some of the top pediatric orthopedic programs in the country. He has a few recent publications about osteochondritis dissecans in the pediatric population and is currently working on a number of additional papers. He will be doing his first fellowship with the outstanding pediatric orthopedic group at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa.

He enjoys time with his wife and family, especially his nephews and niece. He has also been known to spend his time sampling thai, vietnamese and middle eastern food in whatever city he happens to find himself in. In addition, he likes to play guitar badly, hike, cycle, drink unreasonably large coffees and grow out his fifth year study beard.
