On December 6th, 2014, a gathering was held to remember the 14 women who were gunned down at the L'Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal 25 years ago and all other women and children whose lives have been taken by violence. Dr. Mohit Bhandari spoke at the event to mark the 25th aniversary of the Montreal massacre. He has done extensive research on the prevalence of domestic abuse and intimate partner vioelnce.
According to the Ontario Association of Interval and Transition Houses, 28 women and children were killed by gender-based violence this year and 599 since 1990. In addition, the event also recognized more than 1,000 aboriginal women who have been murdered or gone missing across Canada more than 40 years.
