On Friday, September 28th at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Ontario, the PARITY trial held its launch meeting.
Led by Dr. Michelle Ghert, the PARITY trial is a randomized controlled trial investigating the effects of short-term vs. long-term prophylactic antibiotic regimens on infection rates in lower extremity tumor surgery with endoprosthetic reconstruction.
Surgeons and research staff from 11 sites across the United States and Canada attended the launch meeting to communicate and finalize the trial protocol, troubleshoot current and impending challenges, discuss further expansion of their newly developed clinical trials network, and the broader implications of the study for Orthopaedic Oncology. Guest speaker and trial co-investigator Dr. Mohit Bhandari gave an inspirational address and emphasized the fact that establishment of the PARITY clinical trials network is equally as important as answering the trial’s research question.
The investigators and their research staff enjoyed meeting each other and contributing to lively discussion generated by the excitement of the trial itself. Several sites will be accrual ready within the next several weeks.
