Faculty Spotlight: Richard Lachowski

Published: January 4, 2013

Dr. Richard Lachowski studied Medicine and Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Toronto, then completed a fellowship in Trauma and Total Joint Replacement at Sunnybrook Medical Centre with Dr. Marvin Tile. He then started practice in Hamilton, working during the first half of his career at Hamilton Health Sciences, focusing on trauma and joint replacement. The latter half of his career has been at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton, specializing in joint replacement surgery.

Dr. Lachowski has always had a passion for teaching, and is proud to be an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at McMaster University. He particularly enjoys the one-on-one association with the residents, trying to impart the techniques of surgery and critical thinking that define the art of medicine. The residents help keep him young, for which he is very grateful.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Lachowski is proud of his wife and two children. He loves tinkering with boats (motor), enjoys cottage life, and always has some building project on the go. Leisure hours are usually busy, increasingly consumed by cooking which is also a passion. He is thankful for the benefits which his career at McMaster has bestowed upon him.
