Visiting Scholar: Dr. Wenzhuagn Li

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Wenzhuagn Li from China to the Centre for Evidence-Based Orthopaedics as a Visiting Scholar. Dr. Wenzhuang Li is an orthopedic surgeon at Guangzhou Development District Hospital in China. Dr. Li graduated from Sun Yat-Sen University of Medical Science and started residency in 1994. He received his master degree in Surgery Division from Sun Yat-Sen University in 2006. He has been an orthopaedic surgeon for more than 17 years and was appointed the Chief of Surgery 3 years ago.

During the two month of Dr. Li’s visit, he will participate in research activities in Fixation using Alternative Implants for the Treatment of Hip Fractures (FAITH-2) and INternational ORthopaedic MUlticenter Study in Fracture Care (INORMUS) studies. Dr. Li is currently working on getting FAITH-2 study started in China. FAITH-2 is a randomized controlled trial that will examine young adults with femoral neck fractures to assess the impact of surgical implant (sliding hip screw versus cancellous screws) and nutritional supplement (4,000 IU of vitamin D versus placebo) on patient important outcomes (i.e. re-operation, femoral head osteonecrosis, severe femoral neck mal-union, and non-union).

Dr. Li’s research interest focuses on, orthopaedic trauma surgery in upper and lower extremities, orthopaedic medical devices and orthopaedic stem cell

His interests outside of work include his wife and two children. He enjoys playing soccer, badminton and volleyball with friends and has joined a Hamilton Soccer team in a league.
