MacOrtho is pleased to announce that Dr. Ilyas Aleem has recently accepted a faculty position at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Dr. Aleem completed medical school at McMaster University and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Toronto. He subsequently completed a Masters of Science in Health Research Methodology and a clinical fellowship in Spine Surgery at McMaster University. He is currently in the process of completing a complex spine fellowship at the Mayo Clinic. Dr. Aleem would like to thank Dr. Mohit Bhandari for his tremendous mentorship since medical school, as well as Dr. Brian Drew and all of the MacOrtho faculty for sparking his initial interest in orthopaedics and spine surgery.
Dr. Aleem will be joining as an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery specializing in Adult Spine Surgery. His research and clinical interests are in the areas of complex cervical spine, minimally invasive spine surgery, and spinal deformity. The University of Michigan Health System is an academic teaching hospital with 899 beds, over 2000 physicians, and is ranked #1 in Michigan and one of the top hospitals in America by U.S. News & World Report.
