Last night, our faculty gathered for the annual faculty retreat at Johnathan’s of Oakville. The evening began with a welcome from Dr. Susan Reid, Chair of the Department of Surgery. Dr. Reid discussed the Financial Health Project and how the Department of Surgery hopes to work with all surgical divisions to reach their financial goals through increasing efforts in fundraising, grant success, the clinical practice plan and cost reduction.
Dr. Bhandari and Dr. Petrisor spoke to the group about where we currently stand as a division and a program and what the plan is for moving forward. They highlighted some specific areas that need to be focused on in order to continue to grow. The group had a great discussion on ways to improve and the group left in agreement that when it comes down to it, it is our responsibility to ensure that our program provides a positive environment with a dynamic platform for learning that challenges the residents to succeed and become excellent orthopaedic surgeons.
Dr. Peterson updated the group on the clerkship program and his plans for moving forward as the new Clerkship Director. He highlighted the importance of a team environment and a strong relationship between the students and the orthopaedic team because these students could be the future of our residency program.
Thank you to all the faculty who attended the retreat, your suggestions, comments and enthusiasm is greatly appreciated.
