MacOrtho is pleased to share that Drs. Sheila Sprague and Mohit Bhandari have received funding from Hamilton Academic Health Sciences Organization to evaluate an intimate partner violence (IPV) informational program in musculoskeletal (MSK) injury clinics.

The program is designed to provide health care providers (HCPs) with the knowledge, skills, and resources to effectively ask about IPV and to connect abused women with agencies and resources who can provide assistance.

Speaking about this important project, Dr. Bhandari says “Our previous research has found that 1/6 women attending MSK injury clinics have experienced IPV in the past year and 1/50 are there for treatment of an injury sustained as a direct result of IPV. HCPs in MSK injury clinics have a unique opportunity to provide assistance to women who are experiencing IPV that may ultimately save their lives. The goal of this informational program is to provide HCPs with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide this assistance”.
