MacOrtho hosted the third annual Femoroacetabular Impingement symposium on May 13-14, 2016. This meeting was very interactive, fostering discussion regarding current practices and challenges with a focus on future research initiatives within our FAI collaborative.
During the morning session, selected speakers presented their current FAI research. In the afternoon session, an Investigators Meeting was held for the Femoroacetabular Impingement Randomised Controlled Trial (FIRST), led by Dr. Olufemi Ayeni. The FIRST trial will investigate whether surgical correction of the impingement (arthroscopic osteochondroplasty) provides improved clinical results (decreased pain and increased function) at 12 months compared to arthroscopic lavage of the hip joint in patients with FAI. Enrolment of 50 patients in the FIRST pilot study was recently completed and the Investigators Meeting was held to present protocol information and trial coordination strategies, discuss funding strategies, and engage new and potential site investigators.
