The McMaster MD/PhD Program aims to train and nurture the future leaders of healthcare.
The rapid pace of healthcare related research and discovery requires exceptional people who are trained to bridge the gap between medical sciences and clinical application. The McMaster MD/PhD program established in 2007, combines innovative MD training at the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine with internationally-renowned graduate programs in a range of areas.
Researchers allied with McMaster bring in nearly $300M in funding each year, making us Canada’s most research-intensive University.
Our Faculty of Health Sciences consistently ranks among the top 50 in the World (4th
in Canada). We have nearly 900 full-time faculty, 78 endowed chairs, and 35 Canada Research Chairs.
Our graduates are well-prepared to participate in basic or clinical research and have the ideal foundation required to become leaders in integrated and translational research endeavours that will bring the promise of medical research to the reality of patient care.
The program is uniquely structured, flexible, and customizable, and allows an optimal integration of medical education and research training that starts on the first day and extends throughout this 7-year program. (See MD/PhD Program timeline).
Three applicants demonstrating academic excellence and a strong interest in research will be admitted yearly. Doctoral studies are carried out in the following graduate programs: Medical Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, Health Policy, Health Research Methodology, Biomedical Engineering, or Neuroscience.
The application deadline for September 2020 entry into the MD/PhD program is November 1, 2019.
