"Being at the Waterloo Regional Campus has been a great experience for
me! Having a small class size makes my learning experience very
personalized and learning from practitioners working in and around the
Waterloo Region makes you feel even more connected to the community.
Clinical placements are very close and there are a variety of
specialties to choose from for electives. The medical school building
has a family health team on the main floor where we can engage in
clinical learning experiences and we have a very well organized
clinical skills program. Due to all these great features I have been
able to tailor my medical education to meet my needs and goals which
is crucially important for self-directed learning."

“I chose to attend the Waterloo Campus because of its small class, one-on-one attention and the option to complete electives easily in rural areas.  Little did I know that it would be one of my best decisions!  Since beginning at the Waterloo Campus I work and learn in a tutorial group of 7 students.  Being here has allowed me the opportunity to work along side a wide variety of physicians in tutorial sessions, clinical skills and during electives providing excellent learning experiences thus far.

Here in Waterloo we have access to the anatomy lab at the University of Waterloo, options to integrate with the School of Pharmacy next door as well as two local hospitals for clinical skills practice. There are many, many opportunities for electives and it seems that every local physician you meet is eager and willing to take students!

One of my favorite parts of being a student at Waterloo has been the opportunity to meet and get to know my class. We’re composed of a variety of backgrounds from the sciences, arts and even law enforcement. I’ve met many friendly and supportive fellow students who motivate me to learn while having fun!

I’d recommend the Waterloo Regional Campus to all students because of the dedicated staff and the diverse opportunities for electives and personalized learning.  I am already starting to build a great foundation of knowledge and relationships that I will build upon throughout the program”.

“Growing up in a rural area and living in an urban centre for my undergraduate studies has provided me with a keen appreciation for the differences in lifestyle and learning environment offered by each type of community. For medical school, I was interested in finding a location that offered the warmth, welcome and relationship-focus I associated with my more rural upbringing with the breadth of opportunity available in a regional centre of care. The Waterloo Regional Campus has proved an idyllic combination.

Having completed our first four months of training in Hamilton, we still feel part of the class and we also know that we are learning the same curriculum being taught at the main campus. The difference lies in the environment. The availability and interest of preceptors for clinical experience electives, small class size, and the warm welcome we received from both the medical community and patient population is unmatched- not to mention encouraging and exciting! Kitchener-Waterloo is a young, active city providing regional care surrounded by many welcoming small towns with diverse patient populations. We also have the good fortune of an administration team that knows our names and is incredibly receptive and responsive to our interests and needs. Our brand new building is beautiful and provides one central location for our lectures, library resources, clinical skills labs, and student lounge.
Our affiliation with the University of Waterloo has ensured we have access to all the campus services we may want and our close proximity to the local schools of pharmacy, social work and optometry make for rich interprofessional (and social!) opportunities. Our small class size makes it easy to coordinate social events, and the Kitchener-Waterloo region has lots to explore! Free public outdoor skating rinks, an extensive park and trail network, and fantastic farmers markets make it a great spot for outdoor enthusiasts (not to mention that I can be on the slopes skiing at Chicopee in under 20 minutes after class)!

The breadth and depth of opportunity available to learners in the Kitchener-Waterloo region paired with the close-knit community feeling of our campus has made the Waterloo Regional Campus a great fit for me. Hopefully you’ll join us, too!”

“As a Waterloo Regional Campus student, I have never had so much personal teaching attention in any other teaching facility. The move to KW was not a difficult one, and it is probably one of the best decisions I have ever made (in addition to applying to McMaster of course!)"
