On behalf of the Division of Geriatric Medicine, we would like to congratulate Mr. Eric Sigmund for receiving the Dr. Irene Turpie Internal Medicine Geriatric Subspecialty Award.


Dr. Sadhana Prasad received  a College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) Council Award at the CPSO Annual Meeting of Council on December 4th, 2015. The Council Award is given to Ontario physicians who come closest to meeting society's vision of an "ideal physician". The Division of Geriatric Medicine congratulates Dr. Prasad on this well-deserved honour!

On behalf of the Division of Geriatric Medicine, we would like to congratulate Ms. Stephanie Kwolek for receiving the Internal Medicine/Medicine Selective Award.


On behalf of the Division of Geriatric Medicine, we would like to congratulate Dr. Nicole Didyk for receiving the 2015 Sub-Specialty Teaching Award for Geriatrics.

 


At the Annual Resident’s Research Day, Dr. Eric Wong and Justin Lee were awarded the Dr. Christopher Patterson award for their qualitative study on delirium.


On behalf of the Division of Geriatric Medicine, we would like to congratulate Ms. Shazmeen Manji for receiving the Dr. Irene Turpie Award for academic achievement in Medicine Subspecialty Selective in the Clerkship program within Geriatrics. It will be a pleasure to have her begin Internal Medicine at McMaster University Medical School in the near future.


 

On behalf of the Division of Geriatric Medicine, we would like to congratulate Dr. Fiona Menzies, Geriatric Medicine Fellow McMaster University, for her oral presentation award at the Tri-City University (UT, UWO, and McMaster) Geriatric Medicine Research Day held on June 12th.  She presented a review of the literature on code status education in postgraduate and undergraduate medical training programs.


 

The Division of Geriatric Medicine would like to congratulate Dr. Alexandra Papaioannou for being nominated for the Executive/Senior Leadership Award at the 10th Annual Service Award for Geriatric Excellence (SAGE) Awards presentation and dinner held on May 24, 2013. Dr. Papaioannou is a geriatrician based at St. Peter's Hospital, Hamilton Health Sciences. She was recognized for her exemplary work as a researcher, clinician, and administrator in the field of osteoporosis and fracture prevention. Her ability to bring evidence based knowledge to practice in long term care facilities and primary care has been highly valued and successful.


 

The Ontario College of Family Physicians, on their 50 year annual anniversary, awarded Dr. Alexandra Papaioannou a Certificate of Recognition for Specialists for her work with Family Physicians in Ontario. She is recognized for education and Knowledge Translation excellence in the field of Osteoporosis.


 

Dr. Alexandra Papaioannou received from Dr. Paul O'Byrne and the Department of Medicine at the Annual Dinner Meeting this May the "Graduate Medical Education Teaching of the Year Award for 2011-12" for her outstanding accomplishments as a mentor, teacher, and research supervisor for graduate students.


 

Dr. Aliya Khan was also recognized and awarded the "Queen's Diamond Jubilee Award" by the the Right Honourable Governor General of Canada, David Johnston for her life long contributions to osteoporosis research and clinical care.
