Research Interests

Dr Crowther holds a Career Investigator Award from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. His current research interests include exploring ways of improving the way that we use our current anticoagulant drugs; foci include exploring the use of vitamin K to treat warfarin-associated coagulopathy, the use of low molecular weight heparin in patients with renal failure, and studies which explore why patients with end-stage renal disease suffer blood clotting complications.

These efforts are all funded by National Peer-review funding agencies and are carried out in collaboration with Dr Deborah Cook (Critical Care), Dr Catherine Clase (Division of Nephrology), Dr James Douketis (Division of Internal Medicine) and Dr Wendy Lim (Hematology). The St Joseph’s Thromboembolism Research Centre is located on the second floor of 39 Charlton Avenue, across from the main hospital campus.

Dr Crowther’s clinical interests include general, benign, hematology with a special interest in the prevention and treatment of blood clotting complications. The clinical service at St Joseph’s Hospital is covered by Dr Peter Powers (Hematology and Thromboembolism), Dr Mark Crowther (Hematology and Thromboembolism) and Dr james Douketis (Thromboembolism).
