Residents' Research Day 2016

Call for Abstracts

All Internal Medicine and Medicine Subspecialty Residents (PGY1 - 6) are encouraged to participate in the 27th Annual Research Day in Medicine scheduled for May 11, 2016. You are invited to submit an abstract of up to 275 words outlining the background, methods, results and conclusion of your research. There are 2 categories of abstracts: Clinical and Scientific. The work must be from McMaster first authors, completed during residency at McMaster under the supervision of McMaster faculty. All abstracts will be blinded and scored by a committee of external reviewers.

Clinical abstracts are case reports or small case series which include a detailed description of the patient(s), investigations and main teaching point(s). Abstracts are judged on novelty of the case, depth of the case presentation, completeness of background information and implications/conclusions. Posters are judged on clinical applicablity, visual presentation and response to questions.

Scientific abstracts are hypothesis testing or hypothesis-generating studies that include a range of study designs. Abstracts are judged on novelty/interest of the research and validity of the methods and results. Posters are judged on clarity of objectives, appropriate methodology, conclusions that reflect results, originality, visual presentation and response to questions.

  • The absolute deadline is Monday, March 21, 2016 at 12:00 NOON.

Abstracts should be structured as follows:

Clinical Abstract

  • Background - Disease epidemiology
  • Case Presentation – Provide details of the clinical presentation, investigations and interpretation of results
  • Conclusions - Teaching points/pearls

Scientific Abstract

  • Background

  • Results
  • Conclusions
