We are delighted to post the following Blood Administration
Guidelines to the McMaster Transfusion Research Program website.
The guidelines were created by Julie DiTomasso, Dr. T. Warkentin and Dr.
M. Blajchman with extensive consultation with clinical and technical stakeholders
across two corporations, Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph’s
Healthcare. The format (template) used is consistent with other formats
used for clinical and laboratory policy and procedures at these institutions.
The guidelines conform to corporate formats, as well
as being virtually identical to the format used for Medication Guidelines
(Drugs, IV fluids) in use at the Hamilton Health Sciences. This unique
feature means that primary users like nursing staff are already familiar
with the format and can find information quickly using the guideline.
We think the layout of the information is high quality and employs some
principles of information mapping.
We welcome feedback about the Blood Administration Guidelines.
For any questions related to the content and format of these documents,
please contact Julie DiTomasso
or Kate Gagliardi.
