Professional Practice Overview
The McMaster School of Nursing is committed to providing new nurses with a responsive and comprehensive quality education, and promoting exemplary nursing practice. In preparing new nurses for a variety of clinical settings, students are given the opportunity to integrate the theories and concepts from concurrent course work into the goals and objectives of their corresponding clinical placements.
Clinical placement sites vary each term depending on availability. Our catchment area includes sites in Hamilton, Halton, Peel, Niagara and Brant regions. International and outpost placement settings may be pursued in the final year of the program.
In level IV, students are supervised directly by a preceptor in a clinical setting. A preceptor is a practicing professional nurse employed by the placement setting who takes on the role of a clinical teacher.
