Welcome to the research section of the McMaster University School of Nursing web site. We have a history of being one of the most research intensive schools or faculties of nursing in Canada. Our partnerships both internal and external to McMaster University strengthen our research capacity and contribute to our success. We have attracted operating grants and career awards from numerous agencies, including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, and the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. The areas of excellence reflected in our research activities include Health Services and Policy, Health of Populations, Wellness and Healing Across the Lifespan, Nursing Education, and Nursing Leadership and Practice. We also have faculty expertise in Research Tools and Methodologies, and Knowledge Exchange and Translation.

We are proud to have two externally funded research units headed by School of Nursing faculty members: the System-Linked Research Unit on Health and Social Services Utilization (SLRU), and the Nursing Health Services Research Unit (NHSRU). We also have the internally funded Nursing Education Research Unit (NERU), which is known internationally for its promotion of research on curriculum related issues. Our areas of excellence are further reflected in three chairs held by faculty members: a CHSRF/CIHR Nursing Chair in Advanced Practice Nursing, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario Chair in Cardiovascular Nursing, and the Dorothy C. Hall Chair in Primary Health Care Nursing. Finally, Health-Evidence.ca and the Effective Public Health Practice Project highlight the School's strengths in knowledge transfer. Our students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels benefit greatly from teaching and guidance that is based on the expertise and research discoveries of our faculty members.
