The Division of Radiation Oncology located at the Juravinski Cancer Centre provides comprehensive treatment services to cancer patients within a multidisciplinary and academic setting. There are 21 radiation oncologists who hold full or part-time appointments in the Department of Oncology. Members are actively involved in research and education and are key participants in the administrative responsbilities of the cancer centre and hospital.
The division has an active postgraduate training program which currently includes 12 residents. Residents attend a weekly academic half day and are encourged to become involved in a research project. We are also involved in education at the undergraduate level.
The division's research focus includes basic research, health services research and clinical trials. A number of members have completed the Health Research Methodology Program in the Faculty of Health Sciences. A particular research focus is the development and evaluation of new technologies in radiation oncology, supportive cancer care, and shared doctor-patient decision making. We have an interest in translational correlative studies that predict responses to hypo-fractionated radiation regimens in breast and prostate cancers. The division has a high research profile with funding from peer-review agencies as well as involvement with national and international co-operative groups including the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG).
