Overview

The Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine's mandate encompasses its role in education, research and clinical services. Our role is to:

  • Educate in both basic and clinical areas of pathology and laboratory medicine
  • Conduct research on the pathogenesis and mechanisms of disease
  • Provide Clinical Service in all disciplines of laboratory medicine

Approximately sixty percent of our faculty are involved in providing clinical services, through the Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP), for two hospital corporations and four acute care sites. The remaining members are primarily involved in research and education. The Chair of Pathology and Molecular Medicine is responsible for providing leadership in all areas of departmental activity. A close link is maintained between the Department Chair and the Chief of Laboratory Medicine at HRLMP.The department has a large and diverse laboratory and research staff who look assist our faculty in a wide variety of clinical and research functions. We also have administrative staff who provide assistance to our faculty members.
