Obituaries
Erwin Regoeczi
Dr Regoeczi, Professor Emeritus, past Director of the Cardiovascular Hemostasis and Thromboembolism Research Program and past Chair of the Health Sciences Graduate Programs died at the age of 81 on December 16, 2011.
Memorial donations are welcomed by the family to the Erwin Rogoeczi Prize in Pathology and Molecular Medicine by sending a cheque payable to McMaster University.

Research Focus: development, validation, implementation and application of statistical methods with a special focus on multivariate growth curves, statistical methods in diagnostic medicine and biomarkers, methods for genomics including time course genomic data and methods for data integration.

Fiona Smaill (January 2011)
... appointed on November 29, 2010 as a part-time member of the Death Investigation Oversight Council. The DIOC is an independent oversight council committed to serving Ontario by ensuring that death investigation services are provided in a manner that is effective and accountable. DIOC was established as an independent advisory agency in order to provide oversight of coroners and forensic pathologists in Ontario. This includes administering a public complaints process. Specifically, the council provides advice and makes recommendations to the Chief Coroner and the Chief Forensic Pathologist on matters that include financial resource management; strategic planning; quality assurance, performance measures and accountability mechanisms; compliance with the Coroners Act; and the administration of a public complaints process.

appointed Regional Lead for Pathology for the Hamilton/Niagara/Haldimand/Brant Local Health Integration Network by Cancer Care Ontario. Dr. Alexopoulou's role will include: Regional enagement of stakeholders to create a pathology community of practice; Active participation in the Provincial Laboratory Medicine and Pathology Committee (PLMP); with PLMP, developing and implementing evidence-based pathology standards, guidelines, and quality indicators; and liaising with community pathology leads to ensure achievement of quality reporting standards.
