Dr. Giglia is a consultant pediatrician and Associate Professor, who works at McMaster Children’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton. In addition, she maintains a multidisciplinary team in the pediatric vascular anomalies clinic at McMaster.
Dr. Giglia completed her undergraduate medical training at McMaster University and pediatric residency training at McMaster Children’s Hospital. She obtained her Master of Science in Epidemiology from the University of Toronto and Bachelor of Science from the University of Waterloo. Prior to embarking on a career in medicine, Dr. Giglia worked at Health Canada.
As the Research Lead for the Division of General Pediatrics, Dr. Giglia has worked with her colleagues to develop a research program within the Division of General Pediatrics and she actively collaborates with colleagues in obstetrics, nursing, occupational therapy and pediatric and surgical sub-specialties. Her current research focuses on general pediatric medicine and spans the areas of Late Preterm Infants, at risk neonates, urinary tract infections among infants, pediatric mild traumatic brain injury and complicated pneumonias in children.
Dr. Giglia, as Chair of the Resident Research Committee, has continued to advocate for the role of evidence based medicine in pediatric residency training through the development of the critical appraisal curriculum and promotion of scholarly research projects. Dr. Giglia enjoys teaching critical appraisal to residents and fellows and actively mentors research in general pediatrics through her supervision of undergraduate students, pediatric residents and fellows.
