The 4th annual Pediatric Celebration Event to honour the research contributions by the undergraduate trainees and their supervisors was held Tuesday, April 5th in MDCL. A total of 35 students demonstrated their research accomplishments conducted as 4th year thesis or 3rd year inquiry projects by giving either oral or poster presentations to an enthusiastic audience comprised of faculty, research assistants, graduate students and undergraduate student trainees. The undergraduate research projects covered a wide range - including basic science, clinical trials, systematic reviews, qualitative assessments and literature reviews. The undergraduate programs represented and # students in each category: Biochemistry -4, Biology -7, Life Sciences -3, Kinesiology -1, Psychology -5, Medicine -1, Science -1 and Health Sciences -13. Kudos are extended to the 13 Pediatric faculty members who provided excellent mentoring as supervisors for the projects and to Dr. Sandy Raha who chaired the oral session.
The reception with food and beverages was well received by all students. Many thanks to Elizabeth Almeida and Janice Penney for excellent organization of the event and coordination of the day and to the Department of Pediatrics for their financial support. To capture this year's event a binder containing the program, copies of the posters and pictures of the event is available in Dr. Atkinson's office for all who wish to have a look.
We encourage new faculty members and physicians to consider supervising 4th year projects. For more information please contact Dr. Atkinson.
