All Canadian (Citizen or Permanent Resident) graduates of Canadian and US accredited medical schools who have not had any previous post graduate medical education should apply for first year (PGY1) positions through the Canadian Residency Matching Service (CARMS).


PGY1 Entry

The CaRMS match is the route to entry to a PGY1 training position for all Canadian graduates. Applications must be submitted directly to CaRMS. For specific eligibility requirements, please refer to the CaRMS website.

Subspecialty Residency Programs

Candidates wishing to apply to a subspecialty training program at McMaster University, must refer to the CaRMS website for eligibility requirements and deadline dates: CaRMS

EXCEPTIONS are the Visa Trainees who do not apply through CaRMS , BUT APPLY DIRECTLY TO THE SCHOOL.  Visa trainees are those individuals who are currently registered as a PGY3 Resident in a Canadian residency program and are sponsored by their government/agency and would like to be considered for a position at McMaster University.  Please complete the McMaster Application Form, along with required program documents.

Deadline for receipt of application is September 1st
