Postgraduate Education Committee
Function
To be responsible for the coordination and implementation of educational policies of the Faculty of Health Sciences affecting postgraduate medical trainees, in-keeping with the guidelines of the national accrediting bodies — The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, The College of Family Physicians of Canada, and The Federation of Medical Licensing Authorities of Canada (FMLAC) as well as the provincial licensing authority, The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
The committee shall consider all matters regarding postgraduate education. The committee is responsible to the Faculty Executive/Faculty Council, through the Health Sciences Education Committee. The committee shall have the power to establish subcommittees with members other than committee members.
Composition
Chair:
To be appointed by Faculty Council for a five-year term, normally only once renewable, on the recommendation of a committee appointed by the Faculty Council and chaired by the Health Sciences Education Committee Chair.
Members:
- Program directors of all programs that include a postgraduate year one (PGY1) (core programs as opposed to subspecialty programs).
- Program directors of freestanding interdisciplinary programs such as Critical Care.
- Administrator, Postgraduate Medical Education (non-voting).
Students:
Seven (7) trainees elected by and from the postgraduate trainees, with the proviso that not more than two (2) are from any one program. Each subcommittee should have resident representation (which may be from the Postgraduate Education Committee), at least one of whom shall be a representative of the Professional Association of Interns and Residents of Ontario (PAIRO).
