Summer Publication and Grant Writing Workshop:

Trainees of the QLP Program have a unique opportunity to participate in a 5 day Training Workshop. The aim of this workshop is to provide researchers with the opportunity to expand their knowledge and expertise in grant and publication writing. Each year the location will alternate between McMaster and the UBC. The workshop is for trainees, and will also be open to junior rehabilitation science faculty across Canada.

2010 Summer Publication and Grant Writing Workshop
CIHR Training Program in Rehabilitation Research

When: June 21-25, 2010
Where: University of British Columbia

What:

Academic Writing and Authorship
Dr. Goldsmith will lead a problem-based seminar on academic writing and authorship. Dr. Goldsmith uses the research and strategies developed by R. Boice (2000), and has previously led successful workshops of this nature. The workshop will focus on an analysis of each individual's writing style and habits, and the development of proven strategies for productive writing.

Grant Writing
The second part of the summer workshop will focus on grant writing which will include time for independent learning, interactive discussion and writing. Participants will bring a research question to the workshop and will develop a grant proposal based on their research question. Learning activities will use material developed by Creswell (2003) to enable trainees to gain knowledge and practice in the development of research aims, focused literature reviews, design and sampling issues, methods description, budget and ethics.

All QLP Trainees will need to attend one summer training workshop. Funding will be made available for trainees to cover their out of province expenses.
