Community-Linked Evaluation AIDS Resource | CLEAR Unit

The Term Community-based AIDS Organizations (CBAOs)

versus AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs)

The CLEAR Committee revised the term ASO and adapted the new term CBAO to reflect the broader activities of the CLEAR Unit. The term ASO does not include all ASOs and ACAP-funded organizations. For example, Union of Ontario Indians, Ontario HIV Treatment Network, and First Nations are funded by the AIDS Bureau and receive services from the CLEAR Unit but they are not an ASO. Therefore, the CLEAR Committee which is comprised of 12 community members representing community-based organizations and programs, funding representatives and CLEAR Unit investigators implemented this new term "CBAO". This term includes all agencies receiving AIDS Bureau and ACAP funding throughout the province.
