Maddy is currently a PhD Student in the Medical Sciences Program, working under the co-supervision of Dr. Brian Timmons and Dr. Joyce Obeid. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Wyoming and her Master of Science in Clinical Exercise Physiology from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. During her time at University of Wyoming, Maddy worked as a research assistant in the Pediatric Physical Activity Lab. This is where she began to develop an interest in and love for pediatric exercise medicine research, specifically the impact of physical activity participation on the growing child. After completing her Master’s degree, Maddy had the opportunity to intern at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital in the Exercise Testing and Holter Lab. Working with the pediatric population in the form of exercise testing and counseling, she saw firsthand how much of an impact physical activity or lack thereof, can make on this population. This solidified her desire to go on to do research to examine the relationships between physical activity and its long term effects and outcomes on both the healthy pediatric population and those with chronic diseases.
Fun Facts: Maddy has an affinity for hiking and coffee shops. On the weekends you will either find her studying at her favorite local coffee shop, or out finding a new trail to hike.
